You clicked send. Oh crap.
When you send a no-take-backs email — maybe an admission to a secret crush, or accidental reply-all — there's an instant pang of regret. It feels like there's no going back.
Meet Gmail's Undo Send feature, a lifesaving little hack buried in the Gmail Labs settings. It gives you a 30-second window to "undo" sending an outgoing email.
You just have to enable it first.
Here's how it works:
1. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of your Gmail window and select Settings from the dropdown menu.

3. Scroll all the way to the bottom where you see Undo Send and click Enable.

4. Hit Save Changes at the bottom.
5. Breathe easy.
Now when you send an email, the yellow dialogue that displays "Your message has been sent" will also give you the option to Undo.  Click it, and the email will reopen, un-sent, in the composition window.

It defaults so that you have 10 seconds to click before the Undo button disappears, but you can adjust that window of opportunity. Go to Settings > General > Undo Send, and select a cancellation period up to 30 seconds.
We weren't the first to discover this cool trick. Jimmy Tomczak, founder of beach accessories company TOMBOLO, recently tweeted me a link to an article by former Mashable editor and current Sprout Social editorial director, Samuel Axon.  Gmail's interface has changed sinceMashable's tutorial was published in 2010, so w e updated the steps .
Note, features in Gmail Labs are experimental and may change, break, or disappear at any time. Y ou've been warned.

How to identify pre-2005 currency notes?!

This note has the year of printing clearly printed in the middle of the bottom row on the backside.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced its plans to withdraw all currency noted issued before 2005. Financial experts believe that the move is largely aimed at removing fake or counterfeit currency embedded into the financial system as well help uncover the big black market currency in the country. While the motives of RBI are unquestionably good, there has been some quantum of confusion amongst the general public as to whether the notes they have would need replacement or not. Read on to find out if the currency notes in your pocket or ones stashed in your locker needs to be changed.
Identifying Pre 2005 Currency Notes: Currently the Reserve Bank of India prints currency notes in the denomination of Rs. 5, Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs. 100, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000. All the notes printed before the year 2005 do not have the year of printing marked on it. All currency notes printed post 2005 have is year of printing clearly printed in the middle of the bottom row on the backside of the note. If your bank note has no year of printing on the back, it means the note is printed before 2005 and needs to be exchanged with the bank as per the RBI deadline. All notes with the year of printing indicated on the currency note would stay in operation as all of them are posted after 2005.

This note has the year of printing clearly printed in the middle of the bottom row on the backside.
Possible Reasons for Withdrawal: The possible reasons for the withdrawal of old currency is more to do with streamlining the number of currency variants than anything else. Of course the government is worried about the inflow of fake currency and hopes to tackle it by using all notes printed post 2015 which are far more technically superior and difficult to print for fake currency mongers.
How to Exchange Old Currency Notes: So now that you have identified your currency notes and shortlisted the ones that need to be changed, a simple exchange procedure is revealed by the press release of the Reserve Bank of India. First things first, there should be no reason to panic whatsoever as the RBI has clearly stated that all old notes would continue to be completely legal and can be exchanged at any bank after April 1, 2014.

An old (pre-2005) note without the year of printing. (RBI website)
All public sector as well as private banks have been asked to create a dedicated exchange counter where both account owners as well as non account owners of that bank or branch can exchange their old currency notes for new ones. These exchange counters will become operation from 1st April 2014.If you have a large amount of old currency notes with you, you may want to exchange them, before 30th June 2014. So why is this date important? All exchanges done before 30th June would be unconditional. For any exchange of more than ten pieces of old Rs 500 or Rs 1000 notes after that date would require identity proof and address to be shared with the bank if you are a non customer of that bank.

In Indian so far there has been no official declaration regarding the lifespan of a currency note.

Water Found on Dwarf Planet Ceres, May Erupt from Ice Volcanoes

Astronomers have discovered direct evidence of water on the dwarf planet Ceres in the form of vapor plumes erupting into space, possibly from volcano-like ice geysers on its surface.
Using European Space Agency's Herschel Space Observatory, scientists detected water vapor escaping from two regions on Ceres, a dwarf planet that is also the largest asteroid in the solar system. The water is likely erupting from icy volcanoes or sublimation of ice into clouds of vapor.
"This is the first clear-cut detection of water on Ceres and in the asteroid belt in general," said Michael Küppers of the European Space Agency, Villanueva de la Cañada, Spain, leader of the study detailed today (Jan. 22) in the journal Nature.
The research has implications for how Ceres formed, and supports models that suggest the planets moved around a lot within the solar system during its formation, Küppers told SPACE.com. [See more photos of the dwarf planet Ceres]
Ceres, a dwarf planet or giant asteroid (depending on the definition used), is the largest object in the asteroid belt, orbiting at 2.8 astronomical units (the distance from Earth to the sun). The "snowline" is thought to partition the solar system into dry objects inside the asteroid belt, and icy objects such as comets further out. But the finding of water on Ceres suggests more mixing has occurred.
Scientists have suspected that there is a substantial amount of water on Ceres for about 30 years. A study found hints of water in the form of hydroxide, a product of water's dissociation, on Ceres in 1991, but the finding wasn't confirmed by later observations. Now, Küppers and his colleagues have confirmed the finding.
The researchers used the Herschel Space Observatory's spectrometer to look for signals of water. Clouds of water vapor around Ceres absorbed the heat that radiates from the dwarf planet, which Herschel's instrument detected. The team found that Ceres produces about 2×10^26 molecules, or 13 lbs. (6 kilograms), of water vapor per second from its surface.
One possible source of the water is icy volcanism. "It is like volcanism in that hot material from the interior is 'spat out' to the surface," Küppers said — much like a geyser. But these icy volcanoes eject water vapor instead of molten rock, he said.
Another possibility is that ice near the surface of Ceres sublimes, or goes directly from a solid to a gas, dragging with it dust from the surface and exposing more ice. A similar process occurs on comets.
"I personally consider cometary-style sublimation the most likely source, because I find it difficult to maintain the internal heat over the age of the solar system to maintain volcanoes," Küppers said, but he added that more studies were needed.
NASA's Dawn spacecraft, set to go into orbit around Ceres in early 2015, could answer some questions about the water on Ceres. Dawn recently visited the asteroid Vesta, a baked world whose surface is covered with volcanic eruptions.
"One of the most puzzling questions about the origin and evolution of asteroids is why Vesta and Ceres are so different," astrophysicists Humberto Campins and Christine Comfort at the University of Central Florida in Orlando wrote in an article in the same issue of Nature.
Water vapor can transport a lot of heat, so when Ceres formed 4.6 billion years ago, sublimation of water ice might have dissipated much of its heat into space, Campins and Comfort wrote. "This would have stopped Ceres from ending up with an igneous surface like that of Vesta."
Detecting water on Ceres supports models of the solar system in which giant planets, such as Jupiter, migrated to their current positions, mixing material from the outer and inner regions of the solar system. This mixing could have moved Ceres and Vesta far from the sites where they formed. Ceres probably formed close to its current position, but accreted material from further out, Küppers said.
The findings also suggest that asteroids may have delivered some of the water in Earth's oceans.

7 Ways to Be Better at Your Job in 2014

With 2013 nearly in the history books, some employees may regret their work performance over the past year. Others may have turned in a respectable performance but came up short in receiving a promotion.
While you may be unsure about where your career stands heading into the new year, you should feel optimistic as you plot out new ways to accomplish what you want.
"The new year's a time when you can set new goals," says Dan Schawbel, founder of Millennial Branding, a Generation Y consultant firm, and author of "Promote Yourself: The New Rules for Career Success." The new year is also a time for companies to provide guidance on what employees should strive for in their positions, says Janette Marx, senior vice president of Adecco, a worldwide employment agency.
"In many companies, it's the time to reflect on how you performed over the past year and what you can do to capitalize on even greater productivity in the year to come, or capitalize on your strengths and get more out of what you do well," she says.
To ensure a better professional showing in 2014, follow the tips below.
Embrace your performance review. Some companies may kick off the new year with a performance review. Understandably, employees might dread the prospect of their boss picking apart their work from the past 12 months. Respectfully and calmly express what you think you've done well, and try to find the middle ground between any dueling perceptions about your performance. Marry the differences between the competing visions, Marx says, and "realize what you need to do to be even better in the next year."
Strengthen your relationship with your boss. Exchanging feedback with your boss shouldn't begin and end with a performance review. If your schedules allow, book a weekly meeting to address administrative hurdles and prevent miscommunication and friction from bubbling up. "Employees who have a favorable relationship with their supervisors - a relationship in which they feel safe and supported - may be more likely to go above and beyond what is required of them," according to a 2012 report by the Society for Human Resource Management. The report, which surveyed 600 employees, revealed that 94 percent of respondents believed the relationship with their supervisor was either important or very important to job satisfaction. For your boss's part, he or she should also instill a sense of mission about your job and your role in "achieving the goals of that department and of the company overall," Marx says.

These mistakes will either prolong your job search or derail it altogether. Don't let yourself fall prey to them.

Form new relationships with colleagues. The Society for Human Resource Management report also found that 91 percent of employees believe relationships with co-workers was either important or very important to job satisfaction. As the report noted, "Forming positive relationships at work may make the workplace and work more enjoyable and increase job satisfaction and engagement." If you isolated yourself from colleagues in 2013, aim to increase your outreach efforts and develop a give-and-take rapport with those around you. "If you surround yourself with positive colleagues, people who really make an impact in the business, and you give to them and help them on what they're working on, you'll find that you get that back even more," Marx says. If you prefer a more exclusive mentorship, ask a colleague if he or she is open to regular confabs.
Master your time. The quality of your work may be overshadowed by the tardy fashion in which you're submitting it. Too much time spent responding to personal emails or surfing social networks may be throwing you off course. To conquer your distractions, use technology specifically geared toward keeping you organized, Schawbel advises. He recommends Evernote, software that helps you make to-do lists, set up reminders and keep important meeting notes and tasks synced across all your devices. Or, he says, "use any type of software that can help better lock down what you need to do and when you have to do it by, in a level of importance of each task."
Branch out. Out of fear or laziness, you may have passed on assignments outside the purview of your job description, and as a result, lowered your chance of earning a promotion. According to a 2013 CareerBuilder study of 2,076 hiring managers and human resource professionals, 71 percent of employers reported passing on promotions due to employees saying, "that's not my job." However, if you've ably performed in your position, "ask for more work or identify opportunities where you can connect your skills to different problems," Schawbel says. Taking a more proactive approach shows your boss that you're serious about earning a promotion and pay raise, he notes.
Make yourself indispensable. While you may be a decent employee, you've failed to demonstrate that the company would be worse off without you around. "There's a lot of things you can do to help a company and showcase just by your very presence that they're better for having you onboard and on their staff than they are when you're not there," Marx says. Some of those actions include showing up early and staying late as needed, double- and triple-checking your work, submitting work on time or ahead of schedule and using your extra time to help others around you.

Be productive outside your office. Your job shouldn't begin and end at your desk. During your downtime at home, track down authorities in your field on social media and follow them. They may provide pithy tweets or Facebook posts that inspire you to change work habits that are holding you back. To keep up with your industry and where it's heading, regularly read related blogs, Schawbel advises. Also, if you're struggling with a particular aspect of your job, Schawbel suggests visiting online educational sites such as the Khan Academy and Skillshare. Khan Academy offers thousands of free lessons on a host of subjects, including computer programming, economics, finance and math, while also allowing you to track your learning progress. With instruction from professionals, Skillshare offers numerous cost-friendly lessons on everything from social media strategy to the basics of Adobe Photoshop. Let the sites serve as a substitute mentor if your boss or colleagues are too preoccupied to share their expertise. Joining professional associations can also help you gain "more knowledge of your industry and relevant content that you can bring back into the workplace," Schawbel says.

15 health benefits of garlic

Indian curries are incomplete without garlic – a simple ingredient with packed health benefits. It is very strong and bitter but adds an unbelievable flavour to the cuisine. Any description of garlic is incomplete without mentioning its medicinal values. This miracle herb has been used since time immemorial as a medicine to prevent or treat various diseases and conditions.
Garlic has a variety of potent sulphur-containing compounds which are the reason for its characteristic pungent odour. Allicin, the vital compound among them, is known to have great anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-oxidant properties. The benefits of allicin can be best garnered when it’s finely chopped, minced or pureed and let sit for some time. Garlic is also a reliable source of selenium. Allicin, along with other compounds like ajoene, alliin, etc. found in them also have an effect on the circulatory, digestive and immunological systems of our body and help in lowering blood pressure, detoxification, healing, etc.
Here are 15 health benefits of garlic:
Antibacterial and Antiviral
Garlic is most well-known for its antibacterial and antiviral properties. They help control bacterial, viral, fungal, yeast and worm infections. Fresh garlic is thought to play a role in preventing food poisoning by killing bacteria like E. coli, Salmonella enteritidis, etc.
To treat skin infections
The chemical ajoene found in garlic may help treat fungal skin infections like ringworm and athlete’s foot.
Blood thinning
The anti-clotting properties of ajoene found in garlic help in preventing the formation of blood clots in the body. Hence, it may also increase the risk of bleeding after surgery.
Reduce blood pressure
Angiotensin II is a protein that helps our blood vessels contract thereby increasing the blood pressure. Allicin in garlic blocks the activity of angiotensin II and helps in reducing blood pressure. The polysulphides present in garlic are converted into a gas called hydrogen sulphide by the red blood cells. Hydrogen sulphide dilates our blood vessels and helps control blood pressure.
Protect heart
Garlic protects our heart against cardiovascular problems like heart attacks and atherosclerosis. This cardio-protective property can be attributed to various factors. With age, the arteries tend to lose their ability to stretch. Garlic may help reduce this and may also protect the heart from the damaging effects of free oxygen radicals. The sulphur-containing compounds of garlic also prevent our blood vessels from becoming blocked and slow the development of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). The anti-clotting properties of ajoene help prevent clots from forming inside the blood vessels.
Reduce cholesterol
Garlic has the ability to moderately lower our blood triglycerides and total cholesterol and reduce arterial plaque formation.
Combat allergies
Garlic is known to have anti-inflammatory property. It can help the body fight against allergies. The anti-arthritic property of garlic is due to diallyl sulphide and thiacremonone.  Garlic has been show to improve allergic airway inflammation (allergic rhinitis). Raw garlic juice may be used to immediately stop the itching due to rashes and bug bites.
Remedy for respiratory problems
Daily use of garlic might reduce the frequency and number of colds. Its antibacterial properties help in treating throat irritations. Garlic may also reduce the severity of upper respiratory tract infections. Its benefits in disorders of the lungs like asthma, difficulty of breathing, etc. make it a priceless medicine.  Its ability to promote expectoration makes it irreplaceable in chronic bronchitis.
Diabetes
Garlic increases insulin release and regulates blood sugar levels in diabetics.
Effective against warts and corns
Applying fat dissolving garlic extracts to corns on the feet and warts on the hands is thought to improve these conditions.
Cancer prevention
Daily intake of garlic has been found to lower risk of most types of cancer. This anti-cancer property is due to allyl sulphides found in garlic. PhIP, a type of heterocyclic amine (HCA), has been associated with increased incidence of breast cancer among women. According to studies, diallyl sulphide found in garlic inhibits the transformation of PhIP into carcinogens.
Improve iron metabolism
Ferroportin is a protein which helps in iron absorption and release. Diallyl sulphides in garlic increase production of ferroportin and help improve iron metabolism.
Stir up passions
Garlic’s aphrodisiac property is due to its ability to increase the circulation.
Toothaches
Simply put some crushed garlic clove directly on the affected tooth can help relieve toothaches due to its antibacterial and analgesic properties. But be aware that it can be irritating to the gum.
Reduce weight
Many researchers believe that obesity is a state of long-term low-grade inflammation. According to recent research, garlic may help to regulate the formation of fat cells in our body. Pre-adipocytes are converted into fat cells (adipocytes) through inflammatory system activity. The anti-inflammatory property of 1, 2-DT (1, 2-vinyldithiin) found in garlic may help inhibit this conversion. This may help prevent weight gain.

Beat 'bad' cholesterol with garlic

In today’s day and age, more and more young people are falling prey to heart disease. Consumption of junk food, obesity and other
unhealthy lifestyle choices are just some of the reasons responsible for the rise of lifestyle-related ailments. One of the major culprits behind this is the rise in ‘bad’ cholesterol levels.

What is cholesterol?
Just like the fat you have in your body, cholesterol is also a fat/ lipid that is produced in the liver and its normal levels are necessary for the proper functioning of the body.

Why is it bad?
When cholesterol levels are in the normal range, in a healthy body, the blood flows freely through the veins and arteries. When the cholesterol levels are high, it starts forming clots (plaques) in the blood vessels causing hypertension (high BP), angina (chest pain), heart attacks, strokes and peripheral vascular diseases. (Read: Garlic: A natural pill for a healthy heart)

Try garlic to reduce cholesterol levels
Garlic has long been used in Indian kitchens to pep up spicy dishes; our ancestors appear to have known a lot about its medicinal value. Research now shows that garlic reduces LDL cholesterol, prevents a rise of blood pressure and also avoids the deposition of plaque on the walls of arteries, reducing chances of heart attack and stroke. Garlic contains sulphurous compounds that act as antioxidants and also help with expansion of the blood vessels, keeping blood pressure at a normal level.
Health.India.com tip: Consume a few cloves of raw garlic every day or crush and add it into your curries and gravies if you cannot bear the taste of raw garlic. For maximum benefit, crush or chop garlic and leave it for 5 minutes to activate the beneficial compound called allicin – after this, even adding tamarind or lemon juice will not destroy the garlic’s action. Avoid microwaving or boiling entire garlic cloves because this can destroy the activity of the vital constituents.

How to: Apply fake lashes like a pro

Bipasha Basu
There has never been a better time to embrace false lashes than now. Given their popularity in both Hollywood and Bollywood, false lashes have fast become a makeup must have and luckily, are readily available. A small strip of natural looking false lashes is all the added glamour you need, without any elaborate eye makeup. Celebrity makeup artist Clint Fernandes gives us a four step guide to turn those small barely there lashes into fun, flirty, attention grabbing wands.
Before you start application, gently place one end of the false lash strip between the index finger and thumb of each hand and give it a good wiggle to loosen the strip and make it less stiff.  This helps the false lashes fit better along the contour of your eye.
It is also important to resize the length lash strip to fit your eye. Place the strip along the curve of your upper lash line.  If the strip appears long, use a pair of manicure scissors to snip off the extra length from the outer half (the side with longer lashes) of the strip. Now onto application.
Step 1: “To start with see that the eye area as well as the lashes are totally clean, free from any oils or cream,” says Fernandes. Any residual oil from moisturizers keep the glue from effectively holding  the strip in place. Use a blotting paper and gently go over your eye to soak up excess oil and sebum.
Step 2: “Apply the glue with the pointed part of an orange stick to the lashes.. Keep the glue in a thin line.”  Allow the glue set for a minute.
Step 3: “Starting with the inner corner of the eyelid press the false lashes down in place with the flat side of the orange stick, moving to the outer corner of the eye lid. “
Step 4: “Let the glue set in place for at least 5 to 7 minutes. Now apply mascara coating both the false lashes and your natural lashes in gentle sweeping motions.” advices Fernandes.
Step 5: When its time to take them off, do not pull them off - you'll only damage your skin. Instead, saturate a cotton ball with makeup remover and hold it over the strip, along your lash line for a couple of minutes. This loosens the glue and helps the false lash strip come off easily.
