Valley Football gets three teams in FCS playoffs; SEMO gets fifth seed Eastern Washington
Regular-season champion Northern Iowa joined two other Missouri Valley Football Conference teams in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, which were announced earlier today.
UNI (7-4) drew Lehigh (9-2) in one of four first-round games in the 20-team field. The game will be played at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa Nov. 27. North Dakota State (7-4), making its first postseason appearance as an FCS school, will host Robert Morris (8-2). Western Illinois (7-4) will play at Coastal Carolina (6-5) in the first round in Conway, S.C.
Southeast Missouri State (9-2), the champions of the Ohio Valley Conference, got a first-round bye but open the playoffs at No. 5 seed Eastern Washington (9-2) Dec. 4. Eastern Washington took over the No. 1 spot in the final regular-season Sports Network/Fathead.com poll released earlier today.
Only the Colonial Athletic Association (three) got more at-large teams in the field than Valley Football and the Southern Conference (two apiece).
